Kind Couple Takes In 46 Pets To Help Families Struggling With Hurricane Irma

A couple in Florida opened up their home to any pets needing shelter during Hurricane Irma helping families in the area to evacuate and stay safe until the storm’s over.

Ron and Gretchen Levine, who run a pet sitting service called A Paw Above, normally have a handful of pets in their care at a time. But that changed with Hurricane Irma approaching.

Many families decided to evacuate but didn’t know what to do with their pets, so Ron and Gretchen decided to bring in and watch as many animals as possible. They also volunteered to go get pets for people who had been on vacation and couldn’t make it back to their homes.

Sick, Injured Stray Wandered Up To The Right Place In The Middle Of Nowhere

Sometimes it seems as if things just happen for a reason. And for one sick and injured dog, wandering up to this random home in the middle of nowhere is exactly what was supposed to happen and where she was supposed to be.

Dogs rarely come up to this family’s house, so they thought it was so strange to see a stray outside one day. The dog was badly injured and needed some help. She also wanted some friends in this big, lonely world. And all of those things would be provided by this man and his loving family. He decided to take the dog to the vet to see if they could get her feeling better.

The dad could tell she was sick, and she had lots of scratches and scars all over her body. But he had no idea just exactly how much this dog had been through. After a couple of days, he got a call from the vet who said he’d found some injuries and that she’d been hit by a car at some point in her life. With a fractured hip and some nerve damage, the dog would need some serious help.

The man knew it would get expensive, but he refused to give up on her. “But you know, what do you do? You can’t let them die.” So he named her Betsy and decided she’d be sticking around; they were officially adopting her. Betsy made the best decision possible without even knowing it. πŸ™‚

Man Thinks He’s Going To A Meeting, Gets A Service Dog Instead

Shortly after graduating from high school, Cody broke his neck. The injury left him confined to a wheelchair with limited use of his arms. And just recently his service dog, Wrigley, passed away. The dog was loved by not only Cody but everyone in the office where he works. Cody couldn’t afford a new service dog, so his coworkers were moved to turn his loss into something more.

One day at work, Cody was on his way to what he thought was a business meeting. But what was actually on the agenda left him speechless. It turns out all of his coworkers had come together to raise the funds needed to get Cody a new service dog. He was touched beyond words. He was presented with a check for more than $18,000 which would be enough to match him with Mack. The employees couldn’t pass up the opportunity to spread kindness to a colleague.

Mack the Golden Retriever entered Cody’s life eager to be his little helper. Service dogs aren’t just pets to the people who need them, they are their companions. Many tasks are impossible to accomplish without the help of one of these dogs, and now Cody has the partner he so desperately needed.

Cody is still stunned by the workers’ act of kindness. He can’t believe employees β€” not close friends, but employees β€” wanted to come together to raise that much money to help someone out. Well believe it, Cody. Because it sounds like you have some amazing people as your coworkers. πŸ™‚

After 6 Months Of No Eye Contact, Dad Figures Out Adopted Dog’s True Passion

Dogs rescued from abusive and neglectful pasts often take some time to fit into their new lives. Everything they’d ever known is wrong, and they have to learn to accept love for the very first time. And each dog handles it differently. The story about a dog named Penni is a special one because for the longest time, she wouldn’t even look at her new dad.

Penni lived in the basement of a drug house and was in pretty bad shape. After years of that kind of a lifestyle, it’s bound to take a toll. Things would change after she was rescued and adopted by a man named Blaine. But not right away.

For the first six months of her new life with her dad, Penni wouldn’t even make eye contact. She would just sit in the corner with her head down unwilling to go on walks. As he said, “She was a full-blown disaster.” He had never met a dog so scared of everything.

They then moved from New Jersey to Las Vegas, and that’s where Penni’s true passion in life would be discovered. Blaine started taking her on hikes, and he slowly started to see her demeanor change. Little by little, she was finally coming out of her shell. Who would’ve thought hiking would be the thing to bring life back into this sweet pit bull? Penni still has some anxiety, but her life has changed in a big way.

And dad wouldn’t trade her for anything in the world.
